Education

CNME’s mission is equally divided between research and training; the Center provides support for graduate students and postdocs whose full research efforts are devoted to projects in nanomedicine. Our commitment to these individuals’ development as independent scientists goes much further than teaching technical skills like nanoparticle formulation and characterization—we ensure that they gain experience in the skills necessary to succeed on their own, such as management, collaboration, and mentoring. Our approach, in which trainees work through experimental challenges together, has proven effective; past trainees have gone on to lead startup companies, and current students have established an impressive publication rate. We also teach those outside CNME, through technical workshops for researchers interested in expanding their skills, seminars for UCSD students considering careers in drug delivery, molecular imaging, or other fields related to nanomedicine, and outreach events to share our passion for science with the public.
